The North Canterbury Sport & Recreation Trust and AMI Sports & Fitness Centre has close links with Community Colleges New Zealand and in particular Community College North Canterbury which runs a Certificate in Applied Sport programme.
The College is justifiably proud of the success of this programme, which has built an excellent reputation in the industry.
This exciting programme offers genuine career opportunities. In 2007 over 80% of students on the course successfully completed it and found employment in the sports industry.
Four current employees of the North Canterbury Sport & Recreation Trust completed the Certificate in Applied Sport programme.
After completing their studies Scott Beckingsale and Ricki Jacobs founded the Primary Schools Sports Coaching Programme and with the support of the North Canterbury Sport & Recreation Trust, Community College North Canterbury and various other organisations (including SPARC funding of $60,000 per year for three years) they are now working full time to deliver coaching in up to 16 sports to primary school children in 36 schools in the North Canterbury and Hurunui regions.
Graduate, Hayley Cockburn is a REP's registered fitness instructor and Personal Trainer.
Another graduate, Kymm Robinson, is now Assistant Manager at the McAlpines Mitre 10 Mega Sports Centre.
